Security & Safety at Tanglewood

Regulatory Oversight

Tanglewood Assisted Living  & Memory Care is a fully licensed adult foster care facility for the elderly, specializing in the care of residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Tanglewood is regulated and regularly inspected by the Michigan Department of Human Services, the Michigan Bureau of Fire Safety and the Livingston County Health Department.

Caregiver Training

Tanglewood provides staffing 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Caregivers are trained through the following agencies and departments:
  • State of Michigan - Licensing Division for Adult Foster Care Homes and Homes for the Aged
  • The American Safety and Health Institute
  • The Michigan Assisted Living Association
  • Assisted Living Federation of America
  • All Staff are CPR and First Aid Certified

Fall Protection

Designed specifically for the elderly, Tanglewood Assisted Living & Memory Care is a completely handicapped accessible, single story facility. All exits are equipped with ADA approved ramps. Hand rails and grab bars are present throughout the facility. Extensive use of monitors, low beds, and fall pads help to keep unsteady residents safe. Adequate staffing ratios and well-trained caregivers are the best protection against falls.

Intrusion & Wandering

All exit doors have panic-proof hardware and are equipped with redundant alarms for security against both intrusion and resident wandering. When an exit door is opened at Tanglewood, the alarm system alerts the staff that a door has been unlatched and specifically identifies which door is open.

The facility is also protected and monitored by cameras 24 hours a day.

Fire Protection

Tanglewood is protected by an 1800 gallon fire suppression (sprinkler) system, providing fire suppression coverage to all areas of the facility. Tanglewood maintains redundant smoke detectors in all bedrooms and living spaces, emergency lighting and exit signs, and pull stations at every exit. Fenton Fire Department is the responding fire station for Tanglewood and is located approximately three miles away. Staff training includes monthly fire drills on all shifts and the entire fire prevention and suppression system is inspected annually by the Michigan Bureau of Fire Safety. Tanglewood also maintains monitors and alarms to protect against propane and carbon monoxide leaks.

Power Outages

In recent years, power outages have become a fact of life. Tanglewood is fully protected from the consequences of blackouts or brownouts by a permanently installed 25,000 watt generator which will automatically power the entire facility in the event of an electrical outage.

Food Safety & Water Quality

Tanglewood's kitchen and tap water quality are regularly inspected and tested by the Livingston County Health Department and the Michigan Department of Human Services. Staff training includes the state-mandated SafeServ program.
